The closest resort to Denver and the cheapest transfer we run, but also the only one whose route crosses an unpatrolled 11,307 ft pass instead of a tunnel.
What makes this drive hard
Berthoud Pass is the reason this run needs a chauffeur who has done it. Eleven thousand feet, no tunnel, switchbacks with no guardrail on the outside, and it closes on its own schedule.
What we know that a map doesn't
US-40 through Empire has a 25 mph limit that is enforced seriously, and the town is the last fuel and the last reliable signal before the pass.
Arriving
The resort base and the town of Winter Park are two miles apart, and Fraser is another three past that. Three different addresses people all call "Winter Park".
In summer
Berthoud Pass in summer is one of the best drives in Colorado. Winter Park is also the only resort with a train from Denver, which changes the maths for some groups.

The shared shuttle comparison, honestly
A seat on a scheduled shuttle to Winter Park runs roughly $79–139 per person each way, and stops for every other passenger on board. A private SUV at $395 breaks even at about five passengers, and it leaves when you land, goes only where you are going, and carries the ski bags inside.
